The Call: When Something in Your Life Starts Asking for Change
Ever felt like:
“That’s it. Not another day of this.”
Sometimes change arrives that clearly.
A job becomes unbearable.A relationship reaches its end.A situation becomes impossible to keep living with.
But what if it’s not that simple?
What if nothing is terribly wrong?
What if your life is actually okay?
And honestly, you probably don’t really want to wait until everything becomes unbearable before you make a change, do you?
Most change starts earlier.
Much earlier.
It starts when something that used to feel good begins to feel a little less satisfying.
When you become restless.
More curious.
More easily frustrated.
When you start imagining something different.
A different job.A different relationship.A different place.A different way of living.
And then another part of you says:
“Things are fine.”
“Why change?”
“Why risk what I already have?”
That is a very human place to be.
We tend to stay with what is familiar.
Even when something no longer feels quite right, we know it. We know how it works. We know what to expect.
Change asks more from us.
It asks for energy, uncertainty, decisions, risk, and sometimes letting go of something we have already invested a lot in.
So there can be a period in life where two things are true at the same time:
Part of us feels that something needs to change.
Another part keeps finding reasons to stay where we are.
In the Hero’s Journey, this is where The Call begins.
It doesn’t always arrive as a dramatic event.
Sometimes it arrives as a growing feeling that the life you know may no longer be the life you want to keep choosing.
And because the new direction is still uncertain, change often begins before confidence does.
At some point, we decide that the possibility of something different deserves some of our energy and courage.
That is the beginning of The Call.
What in your life are you still choosing because it feels familiar, even though part of you is already looking for something else?
